The Effects of Acute and Chronic Hypoxia on the Induction of Fatty Acid Synthase and ATP- citrate Lyase

Abstract
The. biosynthesis of lipogenic enzymes in the liver is regulated by dietary control. In present study, we intended to observe the effects of hypoxia on the induction of fatty acid synthase, ATP-citrate lyase, and glucose-6 phosphate+ dehydrogenase. The synthesis of these three enzymes was induced in rat liver by refeeding a high-carbohydrate
diet after starvation for 36 hours. The inductions of these enzyme were abolished by acute hypoxia at 10 hour after refeeding, suggesting that acute hypoxia probably increased the, concentration of the induction of these lipogenic enzymes in the rats ¢¥which adapted to the hypoxia for 30 days. It is thought that the elevated state of the glucocorticoid by adaptation to hypoxia seems to partially contributed to the prorotective effect on the . induction of the lipogenic enzymes from inhibition by hypoxia, although the other complex regulatory mechanisms probably are present.
